Pasolivo were kind enough to send me samples of their basil oil so I could review. I am not the type who’s heavy on using oils in my foods, but do believe in adding a bit in your foods is healthy and beneficial for your health. I like to add just a few drops of healthy oil in my salads to really enhance it.
There’s a lot of controversy floating around the topic of ‘healthy oils’ and whether or not it should be included in one’s diet.
No matter what kind of healthy oil it is, oils are 100% pure fat and just 1 tablespoon of oil contains 123 calories. We must first understand that, not all fats are created the same, and not all calories are equal. For instance, 200 calories of pure, plant-based goodness versus 200 calories of processed foods that are loaded with fat and sugar. Which one do you think is weight gaining and unhealthy? Well the second example, of course. Same goes with oils; not all oils are manufactured the same way.
Most commercial oils on the market, especially olive oil, are highly processed and contain NO nutritional value whatsoever. The commercialized oils are processed with heat (heat pressured), thus, stripping away all the vital nutrients. It’s no surprise that these kinds of oils cause heart problems and clogs your arteries of fat. These oils are highly processed and should be avoided and eliminated in your diet.
‘Healthy oils’ on the other hand that aren’t made with a heat pressure process, but are cold-pressed and unrefined are so much healthier for your health.
If you’re the type of person who likes to use oils when you cook, then simply substitute your processed olive oil or palm oil (or any processed, refined oils that you use for cooking) with a much healthier oil alternative, such as unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil or unrefined, cold-pressed olive oil.
My Review on Pasolivo Basil Olive Oil
Pasolivo are a culinary company based out in Pasolivo, California. They sell flavored olive oils, along with seasonings/salt/spices, whole olives, body care, houseware, artisanal foods, and body care products.
Prior to receiving their basil olive oil, I never tried flavored olive oil (or any oil flavored) before. They have 14 different flavors of olive oil to choose from, and I got sent their basil flavored oil. They have cute packaging, and even package their oils in an eco-friendly tin.
Being that their oil was basil flavored, their oil tasted and smelled like basil. And basil happens to be my favorite herb, too.
I highly recommend using their oil as a healthier olive oil alternative.
