Interview with Instagram’s Top Raw Food Recipe Creator: Angela Meade-Tatum!

Today, I want to share with you an inspiring interview with Instagram’s top raw food recipe creator, Angela Meade-Tatum!

Angela is a Los Angeles based raw food lover and raw vegan recipe creator. She has been living a high raw vegan lifestyle for the past 10 years now, and has over 150+ original recipes! She’s very talented in the kitchen, and by scrolling through her Instagram feed, you’ll think she’s a certified chef and runs and owns her own restaurant or cafe selling her creations!

I got the opportunity to interview Angela, so I can share her story and recipes with you guys. Angela lives an interesting lifestyle, and I hope you find her of inspiration and enjoy her interview below.

How and why did you get into this lifestyle?
That is a funny story… My best friend was getting married, and she was on a temporary raw vegan diet for her wedding. When I came out for the wedding a week earlier, she surprised me and told me I was going to be on the same vegan diet while I was out for the wedding! To tell you the truth, I didn’t know what raw vegan food was, and I wasn’t quite sure about the difference between vegan and vegetarian. After a week, I fell in love with the food, and I felt so much better physically.

What are the top 5 benefits you received by going vegan?
There are so many benefits from going vegan… It is hard to narrow it down to just five, but here you go… Being able to eat an abundant amount of food and still stay fit, having more energy, being able to invest in my overall health for the future, discovering my love for making food, and knowing that I am contributing to the well-being of animals and our planet.

Do you eat fully raw or do you cook your foods sometimes? And how long have you been living this raw vegan lifestyle for?
I am completely raw except for the use of nutritional yeast and psyllium husk. I have been on a high raw diet the past 10 years, but the past 5 years I have been 99% raw!

What does an average day of eating look like for you?
In the morning I usually have vegetables with some type of dip and fruit, or I make myself a smoothie based of fruit and veggies. For lunch I stay simple and have a large green salad. For dinner I will  most likely be having a large salad with avocado, homemade sauce and one of my wraps. And to finish the day off I eat one of my desserts… My freezer is always stocked with desserts, and my refrigerator is always full of homemade sauce and wraps.

I see on your Instagram that you make delicious gourmet wraps. Do you make and eat them everyday?
Yes! I eat at least one wrap a day, maybe two!

What’s your favorite part about eating raw foods?
Well, first the taste! My taste buds are always singing with the taste of raw whole foods! I also have so much energy after eating raw!

Do you have your own restaurant or cafe that you make your RAWesome creations at? If not, are you planning on having your own raw food business one day?
All the food I make is for me and to taste test for friends and family. I am working on a recipe book. I plan to have many recipe books, as I have over 150 (and counting) original recipes. My goal is to be a published “uncookbook” author and to have my own “uncooking” show!

Raw Vegan Tahini Cacao Coconut Butter Cups Making butter cups are quickly becoming my new favorite sweet treat! They are so simple to make the combinations are endless. For these I made a coating with @artisanaorganics tahini, coconut oil and coconut butter with vanilla, coconut sugar and sea salt. For the filling I combined coconut butter with cacao, vanilla and coconut nectar. #rawfoods #rawvegan #rawveganfood #rawvegansofig #vegan #veganeats #veganfood #rawveganfoodshare #veganfoodshare #veganfoodlovers #bestofvegan #whatveganseat #plantbased #vegansofig #crueltyfree #dairyfree #glutenfree #healthy #healthyfood #healthyeats #healthyvegan #healthychoices #healthyliving #healthyfoodshare #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #rawdessert #rawvegandessert #vegandessert #healthydessert

Please share with us your top 5 tips for staying fit.
Number one is eating a whole plant based diet. It doesn’t need to be raw, but free of processed foods and chemicals… If I can’t pronounce it I won’t put it in my body!
Walk at least 10,000 steps a day, take a few minutes to stretch at the end of your day, get plenty of sleep (I am still working on this one) and to make yourself your number one priority. The last tip might sound selfish but if we don’t make ourselves a priority, we will not be living a happy, healthy life and around to take care of our loved ones.

Please share your favorite raw food recipe!
Wow, hard to narrow it down, but I will share a recipe that is easy to make and doesn’t require you to go out and buy a whole bunch of ingredients that you wouldn’t have on hand.

Raw Vegan Lemon CookiesMakes 7-8 cookies

  • 1/2 cup raw cashewsraw_vegan_lemon_cookies
  • 1/4 cup raw almonds
  • 1/4 cup sprouted buckwheat
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp liquid sweetener (preferably coconut nectar)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract

Directions

In your food processor add buckwheat and process until you reach a flour consistency. Next add the nuts and coconut and mix until it is well combined. Lastly, add the rest of the ingredients and process until the mixture forms a ball of dough. Wrap in plastic and let chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or 10 minutes in the freezer.

Once dough is chilled, roll out to a half inch thickness over a cutting board. Cut cookies into desired shapes and refrigerate for one hour before eating.

*Optional: Dehydrate at 118 degrees for four hours (two hours on each side).

Do you have your own cookbook, blog or even your own YouTube channel where you share these rawmazing recipes? (and if you don’t have a raw un-cookbook yet, are you planning on creating one one day?)
I am working on getting my recipe book out soon! I have all the recipes; I am now just testing them and trying to figure out how to get my book out to my followers. I also have made 2 YouTube videos sharing a wrap recipe and a dessert recipe… I will be sharing the videos soon!

Below are some of my favorite recipes from Angela’s Instagram account. She posts so much goodness; her pictures will make you drool!

Raw Vegan Mushroom Bread I have made mushrooms wraps before, but this is my first time making mushroom bread. I am not sure which I prefer, but the bread took much longer to dehydrate. This bread may not have the most attractive color, but it has such great flavor. With the mushrooms I added flax seeds, psyllium husk, onions, garlic, sea salt and black pepper. #rawfoods #rawfood #rawvegan #rawveganfood #rawvegansofig #vegan #veganeats #veganfood #rawveganfoodshare #veganfoodshare #veganfoodlovers #bestofvegan #whatveganseat #onegreenplanet #plantbased #vegansofig #crueltyfree #dairyfree #glutenfree #healthy #healthyfood #healthyeats #healthyvegan #healthychoices #healthyliving #healthyfoodshare #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #cleaneating #mushrooms

Raw Vegan Beet Jalapeño Wrap Who knew beets and jalapenos worked so well together! They came together and made a perfect balance of flavor and texture … This is one of my favorite wraps I have made so far. I thought I loved the flavor balance when I made my papaya jalapeño wraps, but the combination of beets and jalapeños tastes even better! With the beets and jalapenos I added chia seeds, ground flax seeds, onion, apple cider vinegar and sea salt. #rawfoods #rawvegan #rawveganfood #rawvegansofig #vegan #veganeats #veganfood #rawveganfoodshare #veganfoodshare #veganfoodlovers #bestofvegan #whatveganseat #plantbased #vegansofig #crueltyfree #dairyfree #glutenfree #healthy #healthyfood #healthyeats #healthyvegan #healthychoices #healthyliving #healthyfoodshare #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #cleaneating #jalapeno #beets #sedonadehydrator

Raw Vegan Caramel Apple Spiced Cake Here is the finished dessert … Fall is here, so I figured it was time to make an apple dessert. This turned out absolutely delicious, and is one of my favorite apple based desserts I have made so far. The cake portion is a combination on green apples, sprouted buckwheat, almonds, walnuts, dates, coconut, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger. The caramel frosting is a mix of coconut meat, dates, tahini, coconut oil, vanilla and cinnamon. #rawfoods #rawvegan #rawveganfood #rawvegansofig #vegan #veganeats #veganfood #rawveganfoodshare #veganfoodshare #veganfoodlovers #bestofvegan #whatveganseat #plantbased #vegansofig #crueltyfree #dairyfree #healthy #healthyfood #healthyeats #healthyvegan #healthychoices #healthyliving #healthyfoodshare #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #rawdessert #rawvegandessert #vegandessert #healthydessert #artisanaorganics
